Even before we were going out people told me that everything would always be a competition for Jossy and I. Recently I realised how totally and utterly right they are! I think they imagined us beating each other up, yelling at each other, keeping score… I’m pleased to say it isn’t quite that serious. But yes, for us most things are a healthy competition.
An example is our ‘health chart’, a record of how much
physical activity we do and how much junk food we eat. My motivation is purely
to do more exercise than him, but I know that if it’s close he’ll go out and
smash a 10km run just to beat me for the week.
We never actually declare it, but we both just know that we’re
competing. Driving home from somewhere in different cars, we take different
turns to each other just so we can try and get there the fastest (without
speeding of course).
For me it’s a great motivator! For him… well he just assumes
he’ll win! But hey, a little healthy competition never hurt anyone right?
